Join Slow Food Denver for a day at Flying B Bar Ranch
Don't miss the chance to get to know your local farmers and ranchers by joining Slow Food Denver's 2012 Farm Tour Series! For this first tour of the season, we will meet at Flying B Bar Ranch at 10am on Saturday May 19 where we will meet our hosts Margaret and Brad Buchanan. We will learn about their ranching practices, methods for sustainable animal husbandry and enjoy a walking tour of the ranch. Following the tour we will share a lunch featuring beef from Flying B Bar Ranch.
We hope to see you on a lovely Saturday morning for an educational day and to enjoy the very best in local food. Please arrange your own transportation to the ranch (carpooling encouraged), and plan to arrive on time - we will not be able to hold the tour for late arrivals.
*** Please use these directions to get to the farm (some mapping tools have directed people way north of the ranch in the past) *** From Denver: i-70 east to exit 306. 306 is the Rest area exit. The rest area is closed right now but the exit is not. Don’t take 304, don’t take 305, take exit 306. Follow the exit ramp around and it turns into east bound highway 36. Go a mile or so east on 36, then turn left (north) on Yulle Road. Go 7 miles north and Yulle Road dead ends into our place. Look for the red barn.

About Flying B Bar Ranch:
Flying B Bar Ranch is a certified American Grassfed Association Beef Producer focused on providing local, sustainable beef through humane, ethical ranching approaches. We raise our own calves, and they spend their entire lives on our pastures, or eating alfalfa and sorghum that we produce right here on the ranch. Our cattle never get hormones of any kind. The Flying B Bar Ranch is a family run operation by the Buchanan Family, Brad, Margaret, Grace and Will. Brad is a Principal with RNL design where he is an architect and planner focused on sustainable design and creating healthy communities. Brad is also the chair of the Denver Planning Board. Brad is also a member of the Humane Society of the United States Colorado Agricultural Council where he is one of 6 members focused on increasing awareness of humane agricultural approaches in a variety of scales of operations.
A few things to consider:
- In our efforts to reduce waste, Slow Food Denver asks that everyone bring their own 'picnic kit' to include plates, bowls, utensils, napkins and cups. We will have back ups for those who forget or aren't able to do this.
- We will be walking through the fields so sturdy walking shoes are important! Also remember to bring sunscreen/hat, insect repellent, a warm layer, a camera, water bottles and rain gear (just in case)
- In the event of inclement weather, please check your email Friday evening. We will send a note if we need to postpone the trip.
